Why Are We Running Together?

By running together we can offer voters a clear choice -- three neighbors who won't always agree on every issue but can be counted on to remain faithful to the core values of competent fiscal management and an open, transparent and inclusive City government.

Since the mid-1990s, Olmos Park has enjoyed favorable residential property tax rates while completing major infrastructure improvements, including a new City Hall and fire station built without any debt. These actions began under the sound stewardship of past Council members, including Ron Tefteller during his 14 years on City Council and as Mayor. We want to get Olmos Park back on that track – looking forward and prudently and carefully planning for the future. You can be sure we won't agree on every issue, but in all that we do as City Council members we pledge that:

  • We will be fiscally responsible.
  • We will make the protection of our residential property values a high priority.
  • We will communicate honestly to residents on all aspects of City government, including activities of City boards and committees, and will work diligently to bridge any communications gaps that occur.
  • We will work to expand participation in City government by seeking out qualified residents to serve on boards and committees, and by making decisions on appointments at open meetings where the candidates will have an opportunity to address the Council.
  • We will ensure that all residents have a voice - and when they have provided guidance, we will listen to it.
  • We will work to attract private capital to improve the existing commercial and multi-family districts of Olmos Park, in order to bring those districts up to the high standards that characterize our single-family homes – in a manner that our residents support. Increasing the value of our multi-family and commercial properties and our sales tax revenue will allow the City to maintain or lower the property tax rate on single-family homes.
  • In short, we will strive to be leaders on the Council, acting in an honest, competent, and forward-looking manner.
  • It is the responsibility of City leaders to move Olmos Park forward in a responsible manner and to adapt to change in ways that preserve our community property values, character and neighborhood ambiance. With your help, we can be sure City Council is committed to doing so.
